The Little Mermaid

Once there was a little mermaid who lived under the sea with her father and her older sisters. The little mermaid wanted to go up above the water and see the land and the humans but she was too young. One day when the little mermaid grew up she went up above the water, there she saw a ship and on the ship was a handsome young prince. As soon as she saw him, she fell in love with him. All at once a storm came up and the prince’s ship turned over in the waves. The young prince was hurt, and he fell into the water. The little mermaid decided to help him, she took him to the shore and stayed with him until the storm was over. When the young prince opened his eyes, he saw the little mermaid looking at him but then the little mermaid saw people coming to help, so she swam away. The little mermaid told her sisters that she was in love with the young prince then her sisters told her to go to the old sea witch, so she could help her turn into human and live happily with her prince. The little mermaid went to the witch and said to her to make her a human, so she could be with her prince on land. The witch answered that there is a potion that will turn her tail into legs but it’ll take away her voice, it will only come back if the prince loves her. The little mermaid swam to the prince’s palace, she took the potion and went to sleep there, the next day, when she woke up her tail was gone and now she had two legs. Soon the young prince came down to the shore and saw the little mermaid, he asked her if she was the girl who saved him when he was hurt in the storm but the little mermaid couldn’t answer because her voice was gone. The prince said that she could come and stay in his palace too. One day, a beautiful princess came to the palace, the little mermaid watched the young prince walking and talking with the princess. The young prince looked happy, but the little mermaid was sad. The young prince told the little mermaid that his father wants him to marry the princess, but the only girl he wanted to marry is the one who saved him in the storm. A few hours later the young prince and the little mermaid went to walk by the sea together, when the young prince turned and saw the little mermaid, he saw that her eyes were full of love, all at once the young prince knew who she was! Then the young prince recognized the little mermaid and said to her that she was the girl he loved and asked her if she wanted to marry him. The little mermaid immediately said yes and she got her voice back. They were married that very day and they lived happily ever after.

Kip and Tip were to little foxes who lived in a forest .. Kip together with Tip saw a wood and then Tip said that he is a very brave fox and jumped the wood. But Tip asked Kip if he could jump that wood and he couldn’t! A little further on they found a tree.. Tip went up but Kip couldn’t and was afraid. Suddenly they saw a pond in front of them. Inside the pond there were small rocks and then Tip started jumped the rocks. But at some point Tip fell into the pond and was asking for Kip’s help. Then Kip fell into the pond and saved Tip. Then Tip told Kip that they are both very brave !!

A traditional piece of clothing from Greece

A traditional piece of clothing that we have in Greece is the lesbian Vraka. It looks like somme really baggy pants. The men’s version was up to the knee and the women’s version covered the whole leg. It was baggy because they used to wear it while they were working and it had to be comfortable. The every day version was made of cotton but the most formal version of Vraka was made of precious fabric, like wool or silk. It had a string to tighten on the waistline and to strings to tighten on each leg. Nowdays, we only wear it during national festivals.

We should not forget

Living in an island, you are open to many unique and different festivals. Every year they are numerous events in which thousands of people participate in. Ouzo festival, sardela festival, many Easter customs are the most common. Today I going to takk about a very unique one !

It is not very known but all the families on the island from generation to generation are well informed about it. I an talking about the burning of the yeast wreaths the day before the birth of Saint Ioannis.

This tradition is celebrated ath the 23rd of June. Every year people burn the wreaths at the fire and then they jump above it. The reason they do it is that the married women has to jump with a a stove on their head so as, after it they will have a good health. Also, the unmarried women have to do it too, in order to find their life partner.

This was one of the uncountable customs that the island and the country have. Although, I have to admit that passing through the years we sometimes forget to celebrate them. It is important to preserve our cultural identity. It features who we are. Our country is known by them. Not thinking about them, maybe we are going to lose the country one day.

To sum up, I firmly believe that we should keep celebrating our traditions and not forget about them. If every country do not preserve her customs, the whole world will become one huge culture. Without any differences or unique habits. So, try to love your country and represent her with glory!

Higher Education

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter for you, in response to your question at the magazine. You asked to write about the fact, if we know someone who had higher education. Well, let’s do a flash back!

Talking about my family, all the adults have been to university except for my father’s parents. So, in comparison with my mother’s parents they had less opportunities in life for a better job. Both of my mother’s parents have been to university, my grandfather was a biologist and my grandmother was a graffic designer. They got good job prospects and a high salary for that time. Also, they enjoyed themselves every time they went for work. The pleasure from work satisfaction is what they loved the most. The feelings they radiate when they are talking about their jobs are incredible. Now, they are both retired years ago and the retirement they receive, allows them to do everything they want.

In our days, in order to get a great job you must go to a university and have a degree and even more a master degree. When you are well informed about your subject many companies are going to argue for you so as to be their employee. So, you get the job you want with a high salary and you life would be as you have dreamt. Of course, you have to study what you really like and not work on something only for the money. The experience you receive from a higher education opens you the biggest doors in life.

I hope, you found my letter interesting and with fingers crossed let me know if you like it!

Yours faithfully,
Maria Liadaki

Tourism nowadays!

You may be surprised to hear that the real meaning of tourism have changed. This stereotype that tourism is severe for a country because of the cultural issue, is not valid anymore. For now on, countrys with many numbers of toursm have other problems.

The first text discusses how much modern tourism have benefit the countrys in different domains such as the diversion between humains. Moreover, tourism not only grow the population which in a way that’s good for a counry but also many tourists have helped many quaint village from their extinction. That’s why, deluxe countrys have plenty of money because of toursists visiting all this distinct scenery of a place. There is no time to kill.

The second text raises the issue of the effects of tourism at countrys such as the overpopulation which cause the overproduction wich also cause the pollution. All this flights or the massive numbers of vehicules on the road ipmact a lot of the air quality at country. Furthermore tourism affects the local industrie too by converting small old businesses. But neither locals or tourist overlook it. It’s like a raw deal.

To sum up, if governments communicated and took firmer actions, tourism will only be a benefit for a country but as a famous writer said ” a leopard never changes its spots.”

Tourism

Everybody loves travelling in order to explore new people and cultures. Ships, planes and trains help us to move around easily. Although, there are some advantages and disandvantages that tourism impacts on every country.
The first text presents the benefits that we gain from tourism by meeting different cultures and communicating with other people. Through traavelling we abolish all the silly stereotypes about the other countries and people. All the unique landscapes, the quaint villages and the off the beaten track locations make tourists to visit many new places. The idea of exploring something new and the aspiration of learning about it, it’s an ideology which many people follow.
On the other hand, the second text makes us feel really tolerated. Of course, every good thing has its bad side, so it is obviously acceptable. First of all, the environment suffers from air and land pollution because of the exhausting fumes and the unclean emissions. Morever, the small businesses which the local towns have are going to close down dute the fact that the great industries are leading the world of tourism. We must not forget the fact that the beaches and towns become dirty from the tones of rubbish tourists throw away, especially at far-flug locations. However, the last sentence of this makes us feel optimistic by telling us about the actions which hane been taken to resolve some of the problems.
To sum up, the benefits that the tourists provides are much more that the drawbacks. Although, I personally believe that we should take serious actions to resolve all the problems in order to be able to have the time of our lives unconcernlly every time we are on holidays!
