Write your essay looking at the rubric checklist below!
Instructions:
Yes! Today is writing day! We know that the more we write the better we get!
All you have to do is follow the writing cycle!
- Plan
- Write
- Edit
- Draft
- Mark
Let’s Go:
Read the rubric
Time to get out that writing task and plan what you will write.
1. Read the rubric and underline the topic.
2. Read the rubric and underline the specific question
1. Let’s plan!
Planning stage
Read the prompt again and write a few words or phrases as a plan.
I know you will probably say, “I don’t need to write”, but do you know how many students we’ve seen forget what they were going to write about in an English exam?
Make sure you support your viewpoint with examples or justifications to really make your writing stand out.
Write down your opinion
In all types of writing you usually have to give your opinion, make sure you have thought about your opinion before you start writing.
2. Go Write
Did you plan? Now go write!
It is best to write your essay on paper and then once you finish continue with this task. See below!
Finished? Are you sure?
Before you say, “Finished!”, do this quiz
3. Time to go over and Edit
Finished? OK, Let’s see if you wrote the best essay you could!
Go over the steps below together with a partner. Some tasks you will do by yourself some as pairwork.
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE!
Read over your work for silly mistakes!
TASK 1: Before you hand in your work!
- Highlight the thesis statement in yellow
- Highlight the topic sentence in blue
- Highlight the supporting details in green
- Highlight transition words in pink
- Highlight the high level of words you used in orange
- Underline the use of Complex grammar structures
Example of your colour coding
4. Draft
It’s time to rewrite or type up your masterpiece!
New draft. Rewrite your essay with the new edits or if you want, type it up in a google doc. Compare the original written text to the typed and auto-corrected text. We suggest you use a google chrome extension on a pc named Grammarly to check spelling and grammar. IF you don’t have it just use the Word spelling check.
Pair up and check each other’s work
TASK 2: Find a partner, and read over each other’s work. Don’t worry about spelling and grammar mistakes just yet! Go over the writing checklist for each paragraph and put a tick in the yes or no. *Write them down you will be asked!
